This miniature globe was made by a Danish company and printed in West Germany in 1984. Several details show its date and place of origin: note the names of several European cities (e.g, Wien for Vienna) and the inclusion of the USSR. How much has the world changed since this time? Is it still worthwhile to view the globe in terms of nation-states? How can we reconceive of the globe in today’s digital landscape? The globe might sit well in a seminar in any number of departments at the GC–history, political science, anthropology, EES, or even art history. It hold many areas of research as a cultural and historical document.
